The days immediately before midsommar, the start of the main summer holiday weeks in July, the final school day before sportlov, and the days around Christmas and New Year all tend to concentrate departures more heavily than a typical week. The exact dates move slightly year to year, so check your own calendar against the relevant school and public holiday dates for the year you're travelling rather than relying on a fixed date.

Two things compound on a peak day: security queues lengthen because more passengers are moving through the same checkpoints, and the roads leading to Arlanda carry more traffic as a large share of the region travels at the same time. Neither is something we can predict precisely for a given date, but both are consistently worse on the recognised peak days than on an ordinary weekday.

The core advice doesn't change on a peak day — arrive with enough time for check-in, security and the walk to your gate — it's the amount of margin that should.
